Star Hearts - Explore Planets and Befriend Creatures for Powers in this NES-Style Platformer
11A semi-quick playthrough of the demo for Star Hearts, where you play as a space witch using the space magic of friendship with various creatures to gain new platforming abilities to explore new worlds and rough up creatures. I'm sure this is to help catalogue and document new flora and fauna while helping them also go extinct. It also features cloning yourself through revival pods when you die.
There are some tutorials for the two powers you get and you can talk to the crew but I opted to cut them to keep to the action.
The revival mechanic is pretty neat as each pod revives you three times before exploding and dropping a pod can be used to heal you and place a new checkpoint. I suppose this could be problematic if one does poorly in a specific segment. As you die in two hits (spikes are instant death) and have almost no iframes, dying is pretty easy. The powers you get also let you explore alternate routes through levels which I suspect will have secrets but currently only serve as shortcuts.
Unfortunately, their Kickstarter was unsuccessful but hopefully they're able to continue developing.
