I still can't believe they screwed this up worse than the differing outfits. I wonder how disabled people feel when based on a pose, Ashlay's missing arm can be the left or the right one.

There's also backtracking on foot with ships but you can lower the encounter rate and use skills to get more experience/skill points (I'd also avoid the unplayable trap at Mt. Metorx when Cyuss invites you to the mine for ridiculous difficulty like when you are underleveled and can't scratch Crystalis NES enemies (though Ashlay won't join so it's easier to say no and skip it altogether).

You can get a link combo (van y silvalant cave) to extend by using a mage's killer moves which they don't use. Just be careful as you can't cancel out (same with regular moves, and you have to use strategy for range, cost and synergy to see what's worth gaining proficiency for. Let alone get those SFT's like spirit strike did for dragon slash).

For skills, buff stats (aesthetic design buffs everything), herbology, and discounts (determination lowers sp and effort exp to get skill points faster to max at 999, and training isn't much of a stat reduction), then customization for save scumming until you get overpowered weapons (eye for detail, aesthetics and smithing, with orchestra playing for better success rate for that and blacksmith) and combat. Writing also helps copy expensive skills for another person.

I do admit the space lab dungeon is a broken maze and not really worth playing as your characters steamroll enemies when they have petrify protection, and gaining 100 skill points per level past 60 lets everyone master anything. Just remember not to give Ashlay nor Roddick the Silvance sword as it heals tough bosses with its crappy lightning element (and you can't switch weapons mid-battle). Surprisingly, Ilia gets a lot better and can summon animals with later attacks.
