Okie dokie we are back with another round of “Everything You Need to Know about Star Ocean” Star ocean the divine force is coming out for all major platforms, except the switch, on october 27th. Previously we have discussed what to expect from the story structure and basic combat systems of Star ocean. If you want to refresh yourself feel free to watch my previous video about The Divine Force.
Here and now though we are talking about the newest updates concerning Ocean. First off is DUMA. DUMA will be an AI companion throughout your journey whether you choose to play as Raymond or Laeticia. DUMA will serve both as the mcguffin and the deus ex machina of the game. Everyone in the galaxy seems to be out to get DUMA for some reason and I imagine the plot of Ocean will revolve around our dual protagonist solving the mystery of DUMAs existence.
DUMA is not just here to serve as a plot point though. Need a mechanic explained well look no further than your friendly neighborhood floating technologically advanced space magic sphere. DUMA will allow you to fly through the world; traversing levels and finding hidden swag. You won't just be able to find sway by hopping about though, DUMAs convenient ‘radar system will let you know if you missed something ya dunce.
Furthermore DUMA will have combat applications. We already know Tri-Ace is trying to speed up the combat but apparently DUMA can be used in combat for extra ZIP. Call in the sphere and you'll be able to leap across the screen in sudden bursts of speed in order to avoid enemy attack and set up tactical strikes as well as ambushes. In combat you'll be able to use DUMAs abilities to inflict status ailments on the enemy and launch hard hitting strikes. Get the drop on the enemy before combat is initiated however and you can get all sorts of surprise buffs.
Apparently we can expect to see even more in the future regarding DUMAs mechanical applications. For now though Tri-Ace is content to leave us with that. But worry not, we have got a look at some of the other crew members we will be traversing with. A couple of minute long spots introducing Elena and Albaird. We have seen both of these characters previously in past trailers but now we know what function they will serve story wise and for all intents and purposes it seems they will fill the same niche but for different characters. Elena will serve as Raymond's right hand, a pragmatist and devout follower. It seems Albaird will serve much the same role for Laetitia. I'm sure you are likely to spend much more time with Elena in the Raymond route of the story and vice versa Albaird in the Laetitia route. How their individual personalities will diverge and develop we will just have to see won't we.
As things stand, all we know about Star ocean the divine force. Ill be sure to provide more updates in the future one more info drops. Let me know what you think so far and if any of this new info has changed your initial impressions of the game. Later.
