So, with the Battlefront Beta finally coming to an end today I thought I should try and get some Hoth gameplay uploaded, seeing as that is the real big showpiece of the game, with it's AT ATs and epic 20 on 20 player battles. Like I warn in my other Battlefront videos though, I SUCK at first-person-shooters, but love all thing Star Wars, hence why I'm uploading these. This was one of my better go's and I still managed to come last in my team at the end. Grrrrr.

The fact that I do so badly when playing against other human opponents, really makes me sad that this game isn't going to have any sort of proper single player campaign, because getting killed over and over and over again (particularly when it's the same motherfucking person who's doing it) stops being fun REALLY quickly. Which is a real shame, because this seems like one of the best immersive Star Wars experiences I've played at home, but I don't know if I could justify shelling out the full asking price for this if I'm just going to get continually pissed off with an online mode where all the FPS experts just continually kick my arse.

Also, I think it's also a shame there wasn't some sort of a practice option or tutorial for controlling the ships that you could take part in offline before encountering real human opponents. Every time I'd get to control a TIE fighter or an A-Wing I'd get shot down before I could figure out what to do. Similarly, the one and only time I got to play as Luke Skywalker I got immediately gunned down before I could take out a single Imperial soldier. And yeah, I know everyone else who's playing is in the same boat, but I'm old for fuck's sake - at least give me a fighting chance against all the people who put in 100+ hours a week on COD and Halo.

As mentioned also in my other Battlefront Beta videos, my GPU actually doesn't meet the minimum specs for Battlefront, but I decided to give it a try anyway and surprisingly, I was able to get it running pretty close to full speed most of the time by keeping the graphics settings low. Which in itself is pretty awesome, because I thought I'd either need to get a PS4 to play this or spend a couple of hundred quid a new video card.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel Core i5-2310 @2.90GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 - 1GB

Edit: There's an article I was read extolling the merits of the PS4 version of the game over the PC and he mentions the fact: "I did try playing with an Xbox One controller on my PC, and got promptly spanked. Understandably so! Keyboard and mouse is more precise, meaning those who prefer playing controllers are at an extreme disadvantage on PC." And I resolutely fall into the controller category. I know keyboard and mouse is the way to go if you want to really get good, but as someone who this type of play style feels completely alien to, it felt like what I gained in aiming accuracy I lost in manoeuvrability and the ability to duck and cover, jump and switch weapons on the fly. Maybe I might be investing in a PS4 at some point in the future after all...
