Growing up playing this game, this always bothered me. Why do they claim that the factory is about to shut down but it never does? I even asked Brett Douville about it, he just said that the dev responsible for the level must not have thought it was important.

A few days ago, I started looking into this game's easter eggs and unused content with the debugging features that I never really used too much. I found a wealth of unused and test content, some of which I've already shown off in the form of Mount Merakan's enhanced form. I decided to look into this mission's scripts to see what the heck was going on with this non-existent fail condition.

As it turns out, it did exist, and it all looked fine at first. It wasn't disabled - I've seen how the devs disabled outdated scripts from old mission structures, it wasn't like that. Everything made sense when I looked at it, but it didn't work. I decided to mess around with it, and I eventually figured out that the code is outdated.

Lots of things in the code look like they should work, but I guess the scripting engine was overhauled somewhat because certain things don't work anymore, like calling for more than one set of randomized dialogue per command line, which this was trying to do. Later I found the code responsible for showing the plant deactivating, and it was all placeholder messages that don't appear for me anyways because debug printing got disabled.

I sat down and eventually rewrote the entire thing, adding my own little enhancements to make it seem like vanilla gameplay. This mod was just about as hard to make as Improved Final Mission, as I had little to no idea what I was doing, and every time I thought I fixed something, I had actually broken something.

This is the first mod where I didn't have to cut functionality to get anything to work. I did have to cut the code out but I remade it to how it was originally designed. I might improve this more, like making the solar array lower back down since that should be possible, as well as restore more voice lines that should play, and maybe tie the ending voice lines to events instead of a fixed timer, but that's for later.

I plan to make modding tutorials eventually and make the public more aware of the extract/repack tools since options for loading files without repacking the main data archive are.... limited, to put it lightly. You can make new packages and the games are set up to accept them, but it doesn't work for some reason no one has been able to figure out.
