Star Wars Outlaws is an action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The game’s story is set within the Star Wars universe between the events of the 1980 The Empire Strikes Back and 1983 Return of the Jedi movies.
Star Wars Outlaws is played from a third-person perspective as players control main character, Kay Vess, a young scoundrel who assembles a team for a massive heist in order to pay off a crime syndicate. Players traverse open world environments on planets and space during various activities. The game’s combat includes melee attacks as well as the use of a blaster that has several firing modes. Kay Vess has an adrenaline ability that can be charged during combat and when triggered gives players a time-slowing effect, which allows rapid shots on marked targets. Kay also has stealth abilities in order to sneak past or neutralize enemies. Kay's arsenal includes a grappling hook, an electronic hacking device and her trusty companion, a small creature named Nix who has the ability to scan the environment, interact with objects, as well as distract or attack enemies. In addition to Kay’s blaster, she also has a speeder bike to traverse planetary surfaces, and a starship called the Trailblazer to travel between planets. The game features four factions: the Ashiga Clan, Crimson Dawn, Hutt Cartel, and Pyke Syndicate. A player's decisions and actions during the game directly impact Kay's reputation with each faction and a dialogue tree is used for answer choices that affect mission outcomes.
