Stardew Valley is a farming simulator/open-world RPG created by ConcernedApe and published by Chucklefish. It is very similar to the popular Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons series. While working a thankless office job, you remember a letter given to you by your grandfather. He has left you his farm to care for, but the land is rundown and overgrown. What's worse, the Jojoa Mart corporation has moved into town and the old, simple way of life is dying. It's up to you to get the farm up and running and hopefully restore the town to its former glory. But farming isn't everything. There are several bachelors and bachelorettes to pursue, marry, and have children with. You can also befriend over 30 townspeople and see unique events and cutscenes with each of them. Sometimes the townspeople will post quests for you to complete. There are new quests every few days, so it's never dull. There are also festivals each month to attend such as the Luau, Flower Dance, and Feast of the Winter Star. And if you get bored or need materials, you can explore two different caves to mine for ore used to upgrade tools or give as gifts. The caves are also filled with monsters like slimes and bats, so you must be ready for combat using a variety of weapons. You can also care for a large variety of animals such as chickens, ducks, pigs, cows, goats, rabbits, and sheep and use their products to make mayonnaise, cheese, cloth, and other artisan goods. You can also cook meals, donate fossils and gems to the museum, or spend a casual afternoon fishing. And your skills are all upgradable and come with their own perks! Stardew Valley really is a simple farming game, but it is full of possibilities.
