Starfield is like FO76 - Discussion of Starfield Direct's gameplay footage
Starfield Direct gave us a lot of information about how the game plays and what the devs consider to be its strengths. We do a deep dive into what we see and what it means for how the game will play.

00:00 - Start
00:22 - Combat is like FO76
If you've played Fallout 76 you can't help but see the similarities between the combat and combat related gameplay of both games. Especially for jetpacks. The only major difference is the lack of VATS in Starfield.
03:10 - Base Building
We now get two types of bases, actual bases and ships. Bases on planets resemble the camps & workshops from FO76. But ships a new and I share some hopes about how ship building might influence combat.
04:32 - Environments
There wasn't much detailed footage of the worlds and moons, but there was a distinct lack of a food chain.
06:22 - Factions
The factions haven't changed since we last saw them. They still have dramatically different look and feel. With the right lore these differences can be managed though.
08:30 - Character Progression
You'll need 328 levels to max out all skills and it looks like the skill perk system is similar to that in FO76's perk cards. A couple of the ones we saw were directly from FO's perks.
10:09 - Ships
This will be one of the biggest changes from older Bethesda games. I hope that the modular ship construction and the crew management have the sufficient depth to make them worthwhile addditions to gameplay instead of just being another base.
12:10 - Space Magic
There was a hint at the main quest, but there's many obvious similarities to Skyrim's dragonborn concept.
12:29 - Final Thoughts
The game tries to do much and we don't have any information on the depth of the gameplay systems or the lore of the universe. These are still hanging questions but Starfield promises much. Hopefully it delivers.
