578Though this is clearly the final evolution of the Wing Commander series, the theme is one of the best in scifi, similar to battlezone: Soviets in space.
I knew there were issues from when I played it 20 years ago (retail box) so I played it on easy and still get disappointed. There are tightly scripted missions that are easy to fail, there are fail conditions that the game doesn't tell you, and the game doesn't give you HUD feedback about critical things you need to know (like escorts being under attack) - we were spoiled by freespace which came out a year earlier. Chris Roberts sure does know how to make a space game atmospheric though!
