It's all about the money in Starsector. It reminds me a lot of X3, Escape Velocity and with a sprinkling of Master of Orion 2. I have found that combat is not nearly as profitable as just trading on the black market or rooting through dead civilizations trash. A couple of specialized fleets allows you achieve both goals cheaply and efficiently.
Now I have to stop playing the damm thing, I have some ONI episodes I should have made weeks ago.
