2State of Decay 2 — это сиквел хоррора про зомби State of Decay. Как и в первой части, игроки становятся частью группы людей, пытающихся выжить в зомби-апокалипсисе. Игру можно проходить как в одиночку, так и в кооперативе, который рассчитан на троих игроков. Игровой процесс строится вокруг выживания посреди зомби, где игроки вольны двигаться куда захотят, к чему их располагает большой открытый мир, полный возможностей.
В SoD 2 игроки могут организовать собственное поселение выживших, где можно строить различные здания, чтобы эффективно противостоять угрозе зараженных. Кроме менеджмента базы в игре есть и система рейдов, где игроки отправляются в путешествие с целью добыть продуктов, лекарства, оружие и патроны для базы, а также попробовать встретить других выживших. С некоторыми из таких людей можно торговать, некоторых можно принять в общину.
