FF6 w/ XB1 controller.

That's it nothing special here. Tested the quick save. Tried to launch the launcher and after waiting over 1 minute cancelled it and went straight to the game. Runs fine other than the unspecified "Turbo" button which was pressed unwittingly multiple times during the video, assuming that also caused the constant attempts to Run Away which caused a game over as well.
