steamVR Meta Quest 3 - HL2 attempt and Skyrim
Half-Life 2 just turned 20 years old today and valve fanboys were celebrating and all and Valve made it available for free on steam, just this weekend. so I tried to run it in VR on my ryzen 7 nitro laptop 8GB.
no good. couldn't get either flat or VR mod to run at all.
so instead I went into Skyrim and had a blast with a much more modern title with much more open, lively world as well as better graphics and physics from a generation ahead of that overhyped pc fanboy game. I'm good... but really blows my mind how Doom 3 and Resident Evil 4, 2 other heavy and influential 20 yo games from same year as HL2, run in VR natively on Quest mobile chip and this refuses to run on my laptop. sad how fanboyism blind people...
Skyrim is what first sold me VR way back in 2017 and it's still one of most memorable and live virtual worlds to inhabit in the immersive medium. even my laptop runs it better than back on psvr 1 on PS5... after first starting, resolution and framerate take a bit of hit but then stabilized and felt very good...
