Stephen Moyer Reveals When The Forsytes Will Arrive as He Enters a Cozy New Era With Art Detectives
After spending the better part of a decade trudging through the swamps of Bon Temps, Louisiana as True Blood’s iconic vampire Bill Compton, Stephen Moyer is making strides to leave his psychopathic characters behind in favor of cozier ventures. Art Detectives is the first of two new series Moyer has on the horizon that appeal to audiences looking for a certain degree of comfort when it comes to their viewing habits. The second is The Forsytes, the third and highly-anticipated adaptation of John Galsworthy’s trilogy of novels.
In Art Detectives, Moyer stars as DI Mick Palmer, an art-loving member of the Heritage Crime Unit who works alongside the straight-shooting DC Shazia Malik (Nina Singh) to solve crimes connected to the world of art and antiquities. It’s a brilliant new murder mystery hailing from Acorn TV, which has quickly become the premiere source for British crime dramas ranging from hard-hitting nail-bitters to cozier fare. While chatting with Collider about the upcoming series, which debuts on June 9, Moyer shared new details about The Forsytes — including when audiences can expect it to arrive on Masterpiece.
During the wide-ranging conversation, I shared that I grew up watching the 1967 adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, which delighted Moyer. “I've got an interesting piece of information for you. I think the character she played was Fleur, I could be wrong, but Susan Hampshire was one of the leads in that 1967 version, and she is in our version of The Forsyte Saga.” Hampshire did indeed play Fluer in the first adaptation, and she is playing Lady Carteret in The Forsytes. He went on to share his excitement about the production, noting that Debbie Horsfield and the team are the same that brought to life the critically acclaimed adaptation of Poldark.
