Steven Seagal's Belly of the Beast - Action DUD or Hidden GEM?
15There are plenty of terrible movies to avoid but what film fans often want is a stinker that they can really get behind and rejoice in its absolute awfulness - the hallowed, ‘so bad… it’s good’ sweet spot (or rather sour spot): Think Plan 9 from Outer Space or The Room.
So is Steven Seagal’s actioner Belly of the Beast utterly without redemption or does it merit some attention for aiming high but shooting low? The ScreenTime With AVForums team looks at Seagal’s 2003 ‘meisterwerk’ with its obvious action doubles, snail-pace floor slides, mysterious sponge messages and endless John Woo style slo-mo, in the hope of extracting maximum entertainment value.
