Stranger Things: The Game
The official game for Stranger Things from Netflix and BonusXP!
Stranger Things are afoot again in Hawkins, Indiana. Join Hopper and the kids on a new, action-packed adventure!
* It's 1984 all over again. Stranger Things: The Game is an action adventure game true to the games our heroes would have played back in the day.
* Explore Hawkins and its surroundings. See your favorite locations like Mirkwood Forest and Hawkins Lab. Uncover exciting areas you've never seen before!
* Solve puzzles with the unique abilities of each character. Lucas can nail anything with his Wrist Rocket. Nancy has a whole set of bats to swing this time.
* Collect all the Eggos and Gnomes you can lay your hands on. You never know what they might unlock.
The game, which is available as a free download on both Android and iOS, looks like a long-lost SNES classic. (The icon is even an old-school cartridge.) It plays out like a top-down action-adventure, with a pixel art style reminiscent of games likeĀ The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. You start out as Chief Hopper exploring Hawkins Lab for the missing boys; itās a very loose interpretation of theĀ Stranger ThingsĀ story where the characters and locations are roughly the same, but events play out slightly different. I definitely donāt remember a scene in the show where Lucas fights an evil scientist.
One of the great things about the game is that it was designed around the touchscreen, so you donāt have to mess around with fussy virtual buttons. You move around and interact with things simply by tapping the screen and itās all fairly intuitive, if a bit simple. But the game is also surprisingly expansive, especially for a licensed tie-in. Thereās combat, as youāll have to punch your way through guards and wildlife, but also some light puzzle solving. In order to get through Hawkins Lab, for instance, you first need to disable a series of security lasers.
Thereās a touch ofĀ MetroidĀ to the gameās structure. While you start out as Chief Hopper, youāll slowly unlock more characters, each of whom has different abilities. Lucas, for instance, has his trusty slingshot for hitting switches that are across big gaps. As you play youāll come across areas that you canāt access, like a fallen tree or a gate to the Upside Down, which youāll need to come back to once you have the right item or have found the appropriate character.
TheĀ Stranger ThingsĀ game isnāt as good as its clear inspirations ā if youāveĀ spent some time with the SNES Classic Edition recently, thatāll be obvious. But itās still a lot of fun, and a big step above the majority of tie-in mobile games. Itās big and challenging, and finally gives you the chance to see Chief Hopper punch an owl.
You can check out the game now for free on bothĀ iOSĀ andĀ Android.
if this video reaches 500 likes I will make an entire playthrough series for this game.
