I check out the fascinating J2ME conversion of Sonic Unleashed. Gameloft took an ambitious, divisive 3D game and boiled it down to a Sonic Rush-style 2D sprite game, and it looks gorgeous! It controls well for a mobile game as well, and even the slower-paced Werehog segments are... fine. For this stream I searched around for versions of the game that had a good mix of features. There's basically three "editions" for different grades of handsets, and I played through all three of them to completion.

The high-spec version has the most detailed graphics—especially its lovely backgrounds—and more levels; the version I played was presented in widescreen which worked well, except it also supported touch controls which meant the virtual buttons obscured part of the screen. Sorry about that. Its zones are based on Chun-Nan, Apotos, Spagonia, and Shamar.

The mid-spec version has more basic graphics and adjusted level design to be simpler, as well as cutting out the Spagonia section. I played a version that was also in landscape orientation, although a bit narrower than the first, and sadly it didn't have any sound during gameplay.

The low-spec version is simplest of all in content and level design, although surprisingly has more detailed graphics than the mid-range one. It cuts both Apotos and Spagonia (although does feature a glorious snippet of the Rooftop Run music) as well as most bosses, and you fight Eggman directly as the Werehog unlike the other versions. It's the smallest resolution and only in "portrait" orientation but still charming.
