Street Fighter Alpha 1 basic idea ryu BnB and roll punish... read info
25Ive thought about doing a fun, more mix upish video of all the potential things you can do with ryu in alpha 1. As certainly there is a lot of intresting things you can do, like cross up super hurricane kicks, among other not regularly seen things. But I just couldnt seem to think of enough to make it as fun as the guy. So I decided to keep this more simple. And here I just wanted to show once again that many characters in this game kill you off one knock down to a mix up.
Basic idea of ryu combo wise is, if they are standing, duck lkX2-3(or more depending on if large character), then stand fierce, fireball. This is almost a dizzy combo in itself. Pay attention to the dizzy count. Note in all versions of alpha one for arcade and console to my knowledge akuma has same dizzy as other characters so it is not different. (although note in hyper alpha 1 for ps2 he was toned down and gets dizzy faster)This is also your main roll punish. If they are ducking, your option is now duck lkX2, to duck mp fireball. Again just this in it self does a lot of stun, and this gives you a knock down. So you could even do this if you wanted to on standing opponent. Note that its always better to do a mp then mk with ryu in this game as mk doesnt do any dizzy really. So unless youre doing some combo to super, or its just off a random poke say of mk, better to lean towards mp, or hp.
Besides this combo the other most important combo id say would be just duck lkXn(usually 3-4), then sweep. This does just a little less then a a fireball combo stun wise, and leaves you at a better position to react to rolls and then punish. This as well is a good roll punish. As again in alpha 1 one of the most important things is the portion of the game of discouraging rolls as all rolls are very fast, and you can roll 99% of the moves in the game which adds to the somewhat at times randomness of the game.
Fortuntaely of course ryu actually punishes rolls very hard in this game. Maybe only outdone by akuma and guy. However compared to guy who does not have a rapid fire duck short, ryu and akuma of course do.
Besides this the rose thing is just showing another way you can discourage rolls in the corner while also going for a mix up. Ryus hurricnae kick you can time to punish rolls as well as moving forward and keeping your momentum and then well the next mix up dizzys...
So there you have it, even after something as simple as a red fireball knock down, ryu has a dizzy combo as a roll punish to discourage the roll. And a potential unblockable cross up and at worse misc mix up situation that also leads to a dizzy. Leading to a very strong character at dizzy and TOD you in this game. Of course this video does not go over his other strengths but you get the idea...
Other random notes..
Note that ryus cross up in this game is pretty misc at worst. And is actually straight up unblockable when timed correctly as well. Ryu also(and perhaps other characters however ive only seen it with ryu and very randomly so)can make his super fireball unblockable as well. The opponent will never enter proxemity blocking when you throw it out orginally and then can not be blocked. However I do not know how this is achieved nor do I know anyone else that does. Or else I would have shown it, but just to say I do know its possible at least lol.
Anyway pretty simple idea here, but again just wanted to show that many characters in this game kill you very fast. And that the idea that chain combos of a-b-c are to powerful is not really valid as most good combos in the game do not go that route what so ever.
