OG colors then some GBC colorization.

I do remember when this came out that it was VERY late to the party. In fact, it was widely discussed after 1992 when the ports started that this just wasn't coming out. The reason was that the gameplay was too finely tuned and with a 6-button layout...there was just no way to get it on the Game Boy without it looking and playing like a Tiger game.

Then Mortal Kombat came out on the GB in '93 and well...that didn't help things. Literally no one thought it would ever come out. Then somehow, in 1995 of all years, it came out. Very, very late to the party. Considering the GBA wasn't even in the oven yet, you couldn't really say "they should have waited til next gen". Game Boy was still the portable king.

The release was mixed and it still is to this day. It literally plays like it's 30% of the real thing. It's got a third of the buttons, speed, and animations. This should instantly tank a game. If you really pay attention and if you were to see the Game Boy's ghosting, it would literally look like a Tiger game.

Yet, it somehow works in some ways. It's very playable and it somehow uses its limitations to maintain some sort of balance. It knows what hardware it's on. It also managed to get in far more fighters than it ever had any right to. It was somewhat of a jab at the MK games for stripping down so much on the character side of things. It IS better than the MK games. That's a feat in itself.
