Stride Fates (Mirrors Edge VR!?) PSVR2 Gameplay - First Impressions Review
Written REVIEW!!! (First Impressions):
In this video we'll be checking out Stride Fates on the PSVR2, I was heavily expecting this experience to feel like Mirrors Edge in VR considering it's all about Parkour, run n gun gameplay, and the ability to go hand to hand close quarters combat... that being said I was left disappointed with my first impressions, the game has lots of Jank..
Grabbing things, you would expect a game about climbing, and grabbing the environment to have the ability to grab things down right, but it's almost impossible grab just about anything correctly, or without your hand going through the wall, or even latching onto what you're trying to grab, or stopping your hand from touching it... which is my biggest issue. Hopefully the more I play the more I'll get used to it, just definitely needs work. The Hookshot grapple tool helps pick things up, but not when grabbing walls/enemies/etc.
The gunplay although I haven't explored all the weapons beyond the pistol, uzi, and assault rifle, or upgraded them... doesn't feel great, but they're not terrible.. and no manual reloading is always disappointing, especially when they tell you to just point your gun down to reload.. The story isn't engaging, although I've only played the first few levels, it feels like filler to these maps you can traverse, and fight on... it's basically "Go here, Do this" and that's fine, just wish there was more.
The hand to hand combat needs LOTS of work, and again grabbing enemies.. you should be able to move them easier when holding them they feel too hard to move, they feel to heavy.. it's hard to throw once you grab them (if you can even manage to do that properly), but again making them a bit lighter might help.
Also the A.i. needs heavy work, and enemy character models need more variety... the graphics/visuals are decent with nice environments, and detail, but lots of blur, the resolution needs big work, at times it looks great up close, but very blurry for most the time... I really hope this game gets massive updates cause I could see there being a really fun experience beyond all the issues, even if there isn't a great story... if many things are fixed I can see this actually becoming a really fun VR experience to jump into, but it definitely needs work.. here's to hoping it happens sooner rather than later. That being said I'm still gonna play more, and stay optimistic.. so stay tuned to see part 2...
