After sending in Sir William, you will be hostile towards the other 3 Lords around the map - the yellow faction being your immediate threat. He has archers on his towers but this can easily be dismounted by using ballista against them.

All 3 Lords will not recruit troops and then attack you - which gives us a lot of time to build our castle and train our troops - but first deal with the pesky archers of the yellow faction that is in range of your stone quarries.

Before killing the last enemy lord (I recommend leaving the Grey Lord alive, till you are ready), make sure you have a SIZEABLE army as the mission tip implies to be prepared for the big fight that comes next. You want to have as MANY knights, archers and crossbow men as possible. There's no point in recruiting swordsmen because they're weaker and use the same weapon and armor as the knight. You might as well go for the tankier knights (1 Knight = 1 Lord in terms of attack power and armor). You can also build a stables and tell the knights to mount a horse. You can only have up to 4 knights on horseback though.
