Stronghold Warlords - The Path of Peace - The Scribe Economic Campaign Part 7 - Fortunes
Part 31 of my playthrough of the Stronghold Warlords single player campaign. This is the final chapter, Chapter 7, of The Scribe’s The Path of Peace Economic campaign, the “Fortunes” mission, and the last mission I had yet to complete in the base game.
This was a pretty cool mission in the Economic Campaign. The main goal was to get 10,500 Gold, so it was just a matter of constantly scaling your population and food production to enact as massive a Tax as possible to earn the Gold before time ran out. I spent most of my early game resources on Woodcutters and Rice Farms, as usual, and then used excess wood to build more houses and more of the various farms to scale it that way. There were quite a few events that had either a positive or negative effect on popularity, so that made things interesting to try to deal with. I was able to get extra Tax during some of the popularity increases, but also almost starved out when I lost all of my rice at one point. The other quandary I had was when to build the clothes line of production. I didn’t need too many clothes, so I didn’t want to commit too many resources to it early that could have been better spent supporting a higher population and therefore generating more Tax revenue, but I didn’t want to build them so late that I didn’t complete the Collect 150 objective in time. In hindsight I probably made them a little too early, and a few too many Workshops, but I was also able to use the excess cloths to boost popularity as a stopgap measure for some moments when I was low on food, or to push me into a higher Tax value while maintaining popularity, or even just sell the extra clothes directly for gold - so it wasn’t a total waste. I was quite afraid of a massive fire breaking out with how many buildings were going to be needed, so I spaced everything out quite a lot, which led to slower production times due to the extra travel distance, but I was willing to accept that tradeoff to keep my buildings safe. Some parts towards the end may seem a little boring, but I promise you it was more intense managing the food to popularity ratios in the bottom right window than any combat I’ve done in this game lol. In the end I had a really cool ‘city’ that took up almost the entire map, and had a lot of fun balancing the various food quantities with population and popularity. I did want to crank the Tax up to the maximum value (7) and sell every single piece of food and resource I had, (minus 150 clothes), right at the end to see if that could put me over the 10,500 before it lead to every worker and peasant leaving, but I think I waited too long and skated across the threshold pretty easily with time to spare. Pretty solid end to the Economic Campaign and the game as a whole.
