High-rise fires are some of the most challenging and hazardous situations firefighters face, notes Kathy Notarianni, head of WPI's Department of Fire Protection Engineering. In this video, she talks about a national study of high-rise firefighting practices that WPI is helping design and lead. The study will examine the efficacy of existing methods for fighting these fires and evaluate new approaches that could make high-rise firefighting more effective and safer—including the use of elevators as firefighting tools.
