Secuela del videojuego de sigilo e infiltración Styx: Master of Shadows, que presenta un planteamiento más ambicioso que el original. Shards of Darkness vuelve a estar protagonizado por el duende Styx, e introduce el crafteo de armas y objetos como gran novedad, además de mejor ritmo, una gran libertad de movimientos, más variedad en entornos y habilidades, y un apartado gráfico superior gracias a Unreal Engine 4.

Obra de Cyanide Studio, Styx: Shards of Darkness apuesta por una narrativa más profunda y compleja, así como un bestiario mejorada y misiones secundarias más interesantes, donde su personaje principal es obligado a salir de su escondite tras un suceso posterior a la caída de la torre de Akenash. Ahora, el jugador debe infiltrarse en un lugar supuestamente inexpugnable, la ciudad de los Elfos Oscuros de Korrangar…
