In this beginner tutorial I texture an orc in Substance Painter 2021. It includes skin texturing, teeth, gums and also the helmet.

My artstation project: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3dOP5J
The concept I use is by the talented artist Bartlomiej Gawel (https://www.artstation.com/gawel)

My texturing workflow in Substance Painter is roughly (and in most cases) as follows:
1. Lay out Base color and large-scale color Variations (Can include for example red, yellow and blue zones of the face for skin texturing)
2. Use the baked maps to drive maps affecting curvature, AO, and so on. That's especially useful for dirt and dust, or crevices that have higher roughness.
3. Next I add some sharper details, usually quite bright or dark, to create some contrast and interest.
4. I import photos that are somewhat useable and experiment with blending modes to get realistic-looking patterns and imperfections. This helps a lot, depending on the quality of the photo.
5. In the last step I might add a shapen filter to help the textures 'pop' in rendering.
Thanks for watching!
