Sugarplum Citadel - Original Kirby-inspired 16Bit Tune
394I made this tune to advertise my availability as a music composer! I'm looking for more projects to contribute music toward in 2025. Along with my indie-friendly rates, I have the capability to produce for all aspects of sound, including music composition, sound effects creation, middleware programming, and more. This theme was pretty wild to create. The last track I made was a bright upbeat Kirby-styled level theme, so I decided to start on a follow-up track inspired by the style of the Super Famicom/SNES, including limitation to 8 channels and incredibly small sample sizes. This time, it's more of an underground/indoor stage theme with a gritty bass and frantic piano chords.
Like how "Soaring Blanket" was a study on one of the Kirby composers, Ishikawa, this one was a study on the other main Kirby composer, Hirokazu Ando. There's also probably some major influence from another composer I quite like, Takahiro Ogata (from "Super Ninja Kun", "Fantastep", "Shin Megami Tensei NINE") - both he and the other composer I mentioned have very free and open styles that seem to be guided by the idea that "anything goes". So for this track, I decided not to care about certain music-writing rules and just make a type of music you can only hear from a video game.
