6In the second episode of Suikoden II, Riou and Jowy finally return home, but their welcome is vastly different. Jowy is betrayed by his own father and handed over to the authorities. As a result, both friends are captured once again and face imminent execution—until Flik and Viktor arrive just in time to rescue them.
Now reunited with their childhood friend Nanami, the group decides to aid in the defense of the Mercenary Fortress. They also take on the role of recruiters for the Mercenaries, traveling to Toto Village, where they meet the family that once rescued Jowy.
However, upon returning from their mission, they are met with devastation—Toto Village has been burned to the ground. The only survivor from the generous family is a young girl named Pilika. With no choice but to retreat for now, the team faces a harsh new reality.

Suikoden II (1998) is a JRPG by Konami for the PlayStation and a direct sequel to Suikoden (1995). Set in the war-torn Dunan region, it follows the protagonist and his best friend Jowy as they end up on opposing sides of a brutal conflict. The game builds on its predecessor’s turn-based combat, large-scale battles, and the “108 Stars of Destiny” recruitment system. Praised for its emotional storytelling and deep political narrative, Suikoden II initially had a modest release but later gained cult status as one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
