In Sumerians you start with a handful of villagers, some grain and an empty map. Where you go from there is totally up to you as long as you feed your people and not over tax them.

Sumerians is a city building game inspired by the history of the third millennium BC in Mesopotamia, a time of great urban growth and development of the Sumerian city-states.
-Start the game with a small settlement near a river. Your citizens will grow their own food and will get the products they need at the first market stalls.
Build a temple and hire priests to increase your religious reputation and attract new inhabitants .
-Pay the salaries of your workers with the crops of your own fields.
-Build walls. In this game warfare is not simulated so you will not suffer attacks, but the walls are required for the construction of certain buildings and for the houses to level up.
-Help your citizens achieve a balance between farmers, artisans and vendors, in addition to taking into account your own need of workers for the state.
-Increase your agricultural areas with irrigation canals.
-Provide services like access to water, guard posts or beautification, and your citizens will reach a high standard of living.
-Expand your economy with transporters to move goods, storage buildings that preserve products better, new products that allow you to raise salaries for your workers, and finally by trading and profit.
-Increase your religious efforts and achieve fame by building a great ziggurat.
MAIN FEATURES
Sumerians is a city building game inspired by the history of the third millennium BC in Mesopotamia.
(The game is currently in development, therefore some of the described features may change or not be fully implemented.)
Building levels. The city will progress from mud houses to bigger buildings made of bricks.
Zoning where houses and business owned by citizens will spawn: Houses, workshops, farms, markets.
Desirability factors in urban zoning: wall level, land value, irrigation, commerce.
Salaries are paid with goods: Grain, beer, fabrics….
Agriculture. Grain, flax, other crops may be added.
Production chains. Beer, Pottery, Fabrics, Weaponry…
Transportation of products. Transport workers, donkeys, oxen-carts.
Canals to increase irrigated areas.
Walls.Two levels: mud walls and bricks walls.
Crime will increase with population. Security guard posts reduce crime.
Water access for the population. Wells and Shadufs.
Ornamentation. Columns, Plants, Statues.
Temples and Ziggurats.
Trade to sell and import needed materials in the advance stage of the game, like cooper and tin.
Immigration. Quality of live and city reputation will attract new people.
Roads. Dirt roads are created by the citizens. The player can paint and erase more walking areas.
Statistics of population growth, production, storage…
