Nowadays, I'm not usually one to play video games based on anime, manga or other licensed properties, but there's this one super-popular media franchise which is now four decades old this year... Yep, I'm talking about the late Akira Toriyama's 'Dragon Ball' franchise. (Coincidentally, 'Dragon Ball Z', arguably the most iconic anime series ever, just so happens to be 35 years old this year.) Therefore, I figured now would be the best time to try out some 'Dragon Ball' games (because let's face it, there are so many of them out there that a mere list won't be enough to highlight them all).

At first glance, 'Super Dragon Ball Z' here doesn't seem all that different to most other 'Dragon Ball' games out there. However, upon further inspection, this game (which actually saw release on arcades first) feels more like a Capcom fighting game than any other 'Dragon Ball' game out there (at least until 'Dragon Ball FighterZ' arrived in 2018), what with traditional motion inputs for special moves and target combos. Funnily enough, the developers of this game - Arika and Crafts & Meister - just so happen to be made up of former members of the Capcom dev team.

So yeah, let's see if I can manage to complete this game's equivalent to an Arcade Mode with one of the most prominent female combatants in the 'Dragon Ball' universe (who also happens to be the inspiration for Blue Mary from the 'Fatal Fury' series).
