Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix - Sakura playthrough
Super Gem Fighters Mini Mix (AKA Pocket Fighter) is Capcom's take on a fighting game with their well known characters in the form of the popular super deformed design. This game is not canon to any of their running franchises at the time; it takes place in its own separate universe. In this playthough, I play as Sakura at a the 4-star difficulty. For those that also want to skip the intro and straight into the first match, here: 2:12
Similar to Plasma Sword, this game has a simplistic control scheme. There's a grand total of four buttons; Punch, Kick, Special and Taunt. You use the punch and kick buttons to create combos while the taunt button is there to provoke the opponent. The Special button is used to hit opponents in order to strip them of their gems which is a part of the gmae's gimmick. By collecting red, blue and yellow gems, you will upgrade your character's special attack, making them more potent than before. Gems are obtained by opening the chest at the beginning at each match, attacking these creatures flying in the air or performing combos on your opponents. Considering the game's happy-go-lucky theme, the simple combos and each character's story each having their funny and interesting moments, this is one of those games that shouldn't be taken seriously despite its competitive status.
Overall, Super Gem Fighters Mini Mix is a solid game and while the gameplay seems simple enough to pick up and play, there is still some degree of strategy needed to become good at this game. I say pick the game up if you can.
The version of the game I'm playing is from Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for the PS2.
