Super Heroine Athenelazer R [スーパーヒロインアテネレイザーR] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
There's not a whole lot that I'm willing to say about this game... its origins are not exactly SFW, but the dev pulled a "Studio S" with this game and made a more fully-realized version of some of their previous "ideas", turning it into a fighting game that can be played by most everyone (or in other words, this is their idea of a "G-Rated" game). For followers of this channel, it may yet be another fighter that wasn't on the radar before, and it is, you guessed it, another FM2nd game. Released in 2018 by Dashimaki Mausu (also known as "Dime en Loan"), it is also known as "Laser Babe Athena VS R". While busy with other projects, this video has been private for weeks as I simply didn't have time to talk about it and I've made it a habit not to make videos public anymore unless they are generally ready.
It's crisp and nice enough looking on the surface with bold and somewhat detailed character sprites and a few good animations here and there, but it's got a strange vibe... I can't quite put my finger on what this game reminds me of. It's definitely got a tokusatsu vibe, but the somewhat bleak aesthetic and brooding music reminds me a little of "King of the Monsters - Meets - Street Fighter". The game's controls are a little stiff compared to other FM2nd games and there are some pretty strict input frames for integrating certain actions into combos (though for those who are patient, it does have a rather robust and quite broken combo system complete with a skill cancel system and super ability to slow down time for aerial juggles), but the game's matches are quick and special energy is given generously during rounds. I like that certain attacks can be deflected with regular blows instead of just getting hit by them and certain strong abilities throw you off balance when blocked (creating a red clash that sends you flying). What I don't like is that there seems to be only one stage in Versus Mode; the selectable stages don't change like in most other FM2nd games.
The game utilizes four main attacks (wk/str punch and kick) and a complete attack cancel button (which consumes one gauge). Unlike most Fighter Maker games, this game includes a "Digital Manual" which is just a more "interactive" manual where you can click on different things for information. It's a neat novelty. There is also a "hidden" character off screen from the normal roster who is fairly OP (but not as OP as the shotokan "Karate Riders"). No real endings. Not much of a plot. This is a video showing some of the game in action. You can get it at:

On the plus side, it is a cheap game if you're looking to get it. Enjoy.
