Super Mario 64 (N64) Full Playthrough/Walkthrough Part 1: Bob-Omb Battlefield
On June 23, 1996, 21 years ago today, the Nintendo 64 was released. Along with it came Super Mario 64, a revolutionary title that took Mario into the third dimension with a new style of gameplay: large worlds that could be explored without time limit, stars that acted as gifts for completing objectives and new moves and power ups that left a very memorable impression on those lucky enough to play it when it first came out. Each world had its own objectives, collectables and hidden stars to find (as well as 15 hidden outside the levels). So, with Super Mario 64 finally reaching the drinking age, I wanted to celebrate by revisiting the game.
This video walkthrough will take you through all 15 worlds and will show you how to collect all 120 stars hidden throughout the castle. Each world has six stars to collect with a hidden seventh for finding 100 coins and each video in the series will cover one world (with one video covering the 15 hidden stars). If you're stuck trying to find that elusive star or need help getting to a certain world, look no further! Keep in mind that this video is applicable to the Nintendo 64 version. The Nintendo DS version has numerous changes and additions to the game that make it vastly different and this video will not help you with most of it.
The first video covers the intro and world one: Bob-Omb Battlefield. Initially, six of the stars are available in this one. I HIGHLY recommend getting the 100 coin star at the same time as the red coin star, as collecting the red coins gives you 16 additional coins. The fifth star, "Mario Wings to the Sky", is possible to get but unnecessarily difficult without the wing cap. To unlock the Wing Cap, you'll need 10 stars after which a beam of light will shine down in the first floor. Look directly at the source to teleport to the wing cap course (for more info see my secret stars video). After you hit the switch, return to this stage and the wing cap will be unlocked on the island in the sky. Use it to collect the coins and unlock the fifth star.
