Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - Part 01
62Today we are beginning one of Mario's most unique yet frequently forgotten adventures! In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Mario returns from his adventure in Sarasa Land after rescuing Princess Daisy at the end of the original Super Mario Land, and finds that his castle has been taken over by Wario!
Wario has locked the entrance to the castle with a door that can only be opened with the six golden coins, which have been scattered all across the land! Mario will need to travel through the Tree Zone, Macro Zone, Turtle Zone, Pumpkin Zone, Mario Zone, and Space Zone if he is to find them all, and confront Wario in an epic battle for ownership of the castle!
Unlike most Super Mario games, SML2 offers a non-linear approach where the player can take on the six worlds in the order of their choosing. This almost gives the game a Mega Man kind of feel, where different people can progress at the way of their liking, before eventually taking on the final level! The game also features may influences from Super Mario World which was released two years prior, including the inclusion of similar graphics, secret exits, and more!
A special thing which I am doing for this Let's Play is playing the game on the Super Game Boy peripheral for the Super Nintendo! This will allow us to add unique color sets to the various levels of the game, which would have original been displayed in black and white due to the game being released before the introduction of the Game Boy Color. I will be displaying the color codes that I used throughout the LP on the screen, so feel free to use them yourself if you want to liven up the game a little bit!
So as we begin our journey in helping Mario to reclaim his castle, I hope that you enjoying seeing everything that Super Mario Land 2 has to offer, as in my mind it is certainly one of the most underrated Super Mario games released to date!
