I used the formulas from the games to calculate the damages done. Speed determines the turn order. I know Earthbound has variable speed for turn orders and damage for psi attacks, but I just used the base speed and damage averages. Mario RPG maxes out at level 30, but I extrapolated their stats to see what they would be at level 99 in order to have an equal fight.

I had Earthbound win because they are a lot faster than Mario RPG and can use PSI Rockin & Starstorm to mostly win the game in the first round, they can even equip the Rabbit’s Foot to make them even faster . The Shield is also very powerful and hard for Mario RPG to deal with. Also the rolling HP meter is very helpful. This isn’t a very lopsided fight though, if Earthbound makes a few mistakes or suboptimal choices then Mario RPG can definitely win. But overall I think that Earthbound would win more often than not.

I know I didn’t play this match up perfectly, like I only used Shield Σ instead of Shield Ω, and didn’t have Mario do 100 jumps. I did this to make the match longer and to show more of the characters abilities and to also make it more watchable. I had Toadstool try to run because she can’t be killed in a single round if she does perfect blocks on physical attacks. Then she can heal herself and you just repeat this until someone runs out of PSI/FP or makes a mistake. You can have Paula and Poo drain her FP until she is out to ensure the win for Earthbound.
