Super Mario World Changes from SNES to GBA Part 2
Note: Some SNES clips were taken from a TAS run, which saved me time making a clip.
The two versions are:
SNES/VC and GBA versions.
Fire Mario's Face:
SNES/VC: Doesn't alter much from Super Mario.
GBA: This is a notable change as SMA 2 Super Mario's face was pale white.
Koopa Kids' room transition:
SNES/VC: Mosaic in only.
GBA: Mosaic in and out.
Luigi on the Map screen:
SNES/VC : As player 2, in the map screen you can share lives. 2 players only.
GBA: As the 2 player feature doesn't exist, Luigi can be a alternate character to Mario, just switch.
Pausing an Incomplete level:
SNES/VC: Just a freeze.
GBA: 3 options: (see on video).
Back a Complete level:
SNES/VC:Pause + Press select
GBA: Highlight Back.
Power ups in ghost house:
SNES/VC: They are translucent such as the 1up mushroom.
GBA:opaque
Punching a Koopa on a net:
SNES/VC: Awards you with 100 points
GBA: Awards you with 400 points.
Pushing Yoshi:
SNES/VC: Yoshi doesn't move
GBA: Yoshi does get pushed along now.
Reznor: Listen to the fireball SE.
Continuing a saved file:
The GBA version remembers everything.
Cape Spin on Shell combo trick:
The GBA version had a combo system that lead to 1ups.
Temporary platforms.
The GBA version added a SE when the counter went down.
Top Secret Area icon:
The GBA Version made a unique sprite other than a yellow dot.
Growing a Blue/Yellow/Red Yoshi for a first time:
SNES/VC: No intro text.
GBA: A intro text of the new Yoshi you've hatched (for the 1st time) explains what it can do.
Vine climbing:
The GBA version added a fast climb feature.
Magikoopa's Teleport
SNES/VC: No sound effect (clip taken from TAS run).
GBA: Added a sound effect this time.
Yoshi Island 1 underground section:
SNES/VC: 6 coins
GBA: 6 Coins + single Mushroom.
Yoshi on Message Block
The GBA version allowed Yoshi to stay on top of the message block.
Yoshi Swallowing something:
SNES/VC: Swallow + coin sound effect.
GBA: Removed the coin sound effect.
Yoshi vs Cheeps and other fish variants:
SNES/VC: Gets harm from them.
GBA: Can bounce but not defeat them.
Yoshi's special Wings,
SNES/VC: Non-blue Yoshies change colour to blue.
GBA: The colour change doesn't happen.
Yoshi's House
SNES/VC: There are 7 berries on the tree
GBA: There are 10 berries enough to get a power up.
Yoshi's Island 3 Message block
SNES/VC: -Point of Advice- and 5 D.coins gives you another Mario
GBA: -Tourist Tips- and 5 D.Coins gives you a 1up
Defeating a Koopa Kid (Ends up in Lava) + Cut scene
SNES/VC: No death cry, bonus multiplier is 50 and the Screen size doesn't alter.
GBA: A death cry is added, bonus multiplier is 200 and the Screen moves up a bit when the text comes in.
Bowser's Intro
SNES/VC: With the reserve item box showing during the introduction + you get no time limit (That's because the Front Door route only gives you 400 Mario seconds). [Clip taken from TAS.]
GBA: The reserve item box doesn't show during the intro but it does later on and it reveals the other stuff too including time (means you've got a time limit) the Front door route gives you a whooping 800 Mario seconds.
The princess revealing:
SNES/VC: The princess' emotions are very sad, she's really frightened.
GBA: The princess seems more calm as her mouth isn't open.
Cannon attack:
SNES/VC: You hear a bump to the ground.
GBA: You hear a whoop like noise coming out from the Koopa Clown Car, followed by a bump to the ground.
Bowser defeated:
SNES/VC: Princess gives you a kiss and the closing text appears.
She kisses Super/Cape/Fire Mario on the chest.
GBA: Get a bonus of (X Time) x 500, then the Princess gives you a kiss and the closing text appears. She kisses Super/Cape/Fire Mario on the face.
On those Bowser clips:
SNES/VC: Bowser's arms are green.
GBA: Bowser's arms are orange.
Start of Credits:
SNES/VC: Mario, Peach on Yoshi with 7 yellow/gold eggs.
GBA: Mario, Peach on Yoshi. 7 eggs that are 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 blue and 1 green. Also Luigi is behind the last egg.
A glitch was performed with Mario's funny walk which was to hold both Dash+Up during the fireworks.
Egg hatching scene:
SNES/VC: Quite slower to get to their spots before the eggs hatch, it reveals the chimney of Yoshi's house. Berries are animated.
GBA: A little faster this time. Luigi goes to Yoshi's original spot so Yoshi is now a little more to the left, the chimney is not showed due to the screen size. Berries are not animated.
THE END SHOT:
SNES/VC: Black background, the models are not as accurate to today's standards such as the colours especially Luigi's Moustache and shoes. You can't do anything else other than reset the game.
GBA: A white background that becomes a field after a camera shot, Mario and Luigi are more accurate this time, the hair colours are a bit too brown I think, you can continue after you wait for a bit when it says "Press start".
