Super Metroid [1994] - Longplay
Metroid 3, done in one sitting. I didn't go for 100%, but I made sure to collect a lot of items and get a pretty good clear time.
Super Metroid encompasses great game design and structure that became so popular it's still used to this day. If anything, metroidvania games are more popular than ever. Super Metroid is obviously not without flaws, but I personally think it's easily one of the best games ever made. In fact, I had to play this game from start to finish several times just to get the recording right without any problem, and I wasn't bored or dissatisfied with having to play the game again. The game atmosphere and area design is excellent, and the graphics are still some of the best ones on the SNES. Even when compared to similar games on modern platforms, Super Metroid with all it's limitations is still amazing and holds up really well.
The story follows Samus Aran after her second adventure that was set in Metroid II - Return of Samus. After destroying Mother Brain on planet Zebes during Metroid 1 and eradicating almost every Metroid on planet SR388, Samus saves a single Metroid larva that hatched right in front of her and started following her like a confused child. With the last Metroid in captivity, the galaxy was at peace.
Samus took the Metroid to the space colony where scientists concluded that the powers of the Metroid could be used for the betterment of the civilization. After leaving the baby Metroid in the hands of the scientists, Samus went seeking for a new bounty to hunt. But she hardly went beyond the asteroid belt when an SOS signal reached her...
The space colony was under attack.
Samus quickly went back to the space colony, but she was already too late. All the humans on board were dead, and the Metroid larva was extracted from it's glass tank. Ridley, the commander of the Space Pirate forces that Samus fought hard against in the previous two games, kidnapped the baby Metroid and planned to expand it and use it as a bio-weapon in his goal of terrorizing the entire galaxy. After their brief fight before a self-destruction sequence at the space colony, Samus escaped and followed Ridley to the only place he could've gone to... back to planet Zebes.
