Super Metroid Review
The Metroid Franchise is one of the oldest franchises on the Nintendo systems with releases on almost all of their various consoles and handheld systems. Out of all the Metroid games that I have played my personal favorite has always been the 1994 "Super Metroid" for the Super Nintendo. This came out on the Super NES when it was at the top of its game and was a strong title. Super Metroid is the third installment of the Metroid series. The first title came out on the NES, and the second one came out on the Nintendo Gameboy. Both were good games, but this one was the one that really brought out the full potential of this game's side-scrolling, platformer style.
In this game you play the well-known character Samus Aran. It takes place immediately following the events of the second Metroid. The basic purpose of this game is exploration, and enhancement of the main character's abilities. As Samus Aran explores the landscape, she finds enhancements to her suit and weaponry that give her further access to the environment.
Super Metroid has long been one of my favorite games. I've played through this game several times and have enjoyed it each time. It has a lot of areas that are enjoyable to explore, as well as a few odd-ball Easter eggs that are fun to find in the game. I enjoyed increasing the abilities of Samus and becoming a more powerful character. If you know what you're doing this game can be beat in under three hours. However, most first time players spend about ten hours on it. The sound and control of this game are done very well. You become immersed in this world when playing the game and you have excellent control of Samus. This game also has superb replay value. I personally have played this game more times than I can remember. Even though I know the game inside out, I still have fun playing through it. I give this game 5 out of 5 stars. This is a timeless title that has aged well, and is still better in many ways than its modern 3D sequels. It's currently available on the Virtual Console on the Wii, and if you don't have a classic Super NES I would recommend purchasing it here.
