Super Rare Bathurst Charger R/T E49 Big Tank - Interview
297Aussie Garage stumble on this Super Rare Valiant on the weekend on our Dongara trip for the Targa West Event and the Midwest Show n Shine 2023 that we attend every year.
Terry was gracious enough to show around the Super Rare Valiant Charger R/T E49 Big Tank Bathurst special vehicle. This vehicle is 1 of 21 ever built for Bathurst racing and the story behind Terry getting this ride is even better.
Terry was approached by a CEO that owned this vehicle that was getting transferred to another country for his position to try and find someone to buy this Valiant Charger E49 and other vehicle, which was a an original Ford Falcon XW Phase 2. The CEO was leaving in less than a week and need the cash fast. He offered up both vehicles for $500,000 to start with, however, before Terry could even look for potential buyer for the vehicles, the price got cheaper and cheaper. To the point the CEO had drop the price down to $100,000 for both the Charger and the Phase 2.. This was too good for Terry and wife to pass up, so the brought both vehicles. Terry states he stole the vehicles off the CEO, which he basically did at that price. Goes to show you need to be in the right place at the right time.
After the purchase of the vehicles, Terry cleaned up the Ford Falcon XW Phase 2 and sold it a week later for $110,000, so he basically did pay a cent for the Valiant Charger R/T E49 Big Tank.
The Charger is running a 265 Hemi engine with Triple Webber Carbies and has round 390 horsepower. These 21 E49 Engines were sent the Italy to be improved for better Horsepower, bigger cams and of course the triple Webber Carby design. However, even with this addition improvement the Valiant Charger had a number of issues on the Bathurst Racing Track and the Super Car Racing Circuit. Such as the front lifting up when going around corners, trye issues and more.
The Interior of this Valiant Charger is completely original and never been changed around. It has Tan Tombstone seats and Charger Dash, however, no luxury such as stereo, power steering or other luxuries. The Charger was made for power and no creature comforts at all. The Boot is al also fully original from the jack, spare wheel and all the clips. Then you see the big 36 gallon tank or 136lts fuel tank. This thing is huge!
Terry will be displaying this stunning Valiant Charger R/T E49 Big Tank at the Midwest Show n Shine at Dongara, Western Australia in conjunction with the Targa West Time Trail Racing Circuit around the Port Dension Lighthouse. It was such a Super Rare Vehicle, however, we have not seen the last of Terry. He has some other Super awesome vehicle to show us, so Aussie Garage will be doing more on his collection soon.
