We were treated a rather long, informative and glorious Super Smash Bros direct this evening. Masahiro Sakurai answered a lot of in game related questions. revealed various new bits of content and more. He released a time window for the release of both versions of the game. Smash for Nintendo 3DS is to set to be released in the summer while Smash for the Wii U is going to be released this winter.

He also unveiled a new and improved online system that can pit you against your friends on Miiverse or against serious Smash competitors from around the world.The modes are titled "For Fun" and "For Glory" which are very appropriate titles given what they will be used for.

Another big unveiling he did was show off the new "Smash Run" mode which will be exclusive to the 3DS version of the game. Practically it's an adventure mode that connects you to others players and you can battle and race against them while competing against various other enemies and completing various stages and tasks.

Last but certainly not least he showed off the characters. Highlighting all the ones we've known about while confirming others like Yoshi, Sheik and Zero Suit Samus. The latter two were also announced to be stand alone characters this time around also. Tweaks have been made as Zelda and Sheik each have their own unique down B specials, Kirby has a new final smash and even Olimar has a new recovery.

And to completely close out the Direct we were treated to a Pokempn themed trailer that not only confirmed Charizard as a stand alone character and practically deconfirming Pokemon Trainer in the process, but we also got a newcomer. The latest addition to the roster is Pokemon X/Y's Greninja who looks to have amazing potential as water type Pokemon who can really pack a punch. Here's to the next big Smash Bros event!
