On this very channel, I have an extremely popular (by my channel's standards) video of Melee where I complete Adventure Mode on Very Hard with Roy.

I honestly thought they wouldn't be able to bring him back in this game. He's quite an enigma in Smash because his first appearance in any game was Melee, and he's become one of the most popular characters in Smash because of that.

However, within the fanbase of the series he hails from, Fire Emblem, he's one of the most hated Lords in his franchise, because his own Fire Emblem game makes him very weak compared to the lords of other games, such as Marth, Ike, and even Lucina.

Although nearly all of the Fire Emblem fans hate Roy a lot, I guess you can thank the Smash fans he has for the attention he's been able to retain in the years between Melee & Smash 4.

The fallout from his reappearance in Smash 4 is the fact that this makes Lucina even LESS desirable as a Marth clone. Roy doesn't seem to be as strong as Ike, but he's still faster than him, and he's heavier and hits harder than both Marth and Lucina. He practically covers all of their flaws with the strengths of his own character.

The one drawback I can see out of Roy is that his Up B recovery is slower than Marth/Lucina's, and it doesn't have as much range.

In conclusion, I didn't hate Roy, myself. I actually like him a lot, myself, but NEVER count on your own hatred for him or any other character from a past Smash game to be your reason as to why they'll be gone from the next one. Players and haters of the likes of Sonic, Toon Link, or Lucario may be able to relate to this.

Also, these Prince Roy/Roy Koopa jokes are hilarious!
