Based on the 1984 anime Macross: Do You Remember Love, Super Spacefortress Macross is a vertical scrolling shooter packed to the rafters with mech suits and oversized weapons. The objective is to send the invading alien Zentradi forces to oblivion, protecting humankind from annihilation.

The game is, for the most part, standard shoot 'em up fodder, although the weapon power-up system is relatively novel. The VF-1 Valkyrie craft piloted by the players can transform into one of three different forms by collecting various power icons left behind by defeated enemies, with each form offering different weapons and abilities. The F1 can also transform into an 'Armoured Battledroid' mode which protects against a single enemy collision or projectile, although it lacks the destructive capabilities of the other forms.

Super Spacefortress Macross must have been reasonably popular because Banpresto would go on to release more games in the Macross franchise, and while it might not be as memorable as NMK's other titles, it's still pretty good.
