Original Text: Still on the #XMen kick, let's discuss their resident Superwoman, Rogue.
#Rogue is one of those characters who had a complicated story that was streamlined a bit due to her appearance on the extremely popular 90s cartoon.
Rogue's primary power is life absorption, which translated to stolen superpowers when it involves superhumans. She started off as a villain, but a nasty fight with Ms. Marvel (now Captain Marvel) led her to absorb too much and the powers became permanent.
She picked up flight super strength, flight, and invulnerability, as well as a host of mental issues due to absorbing the memories and personality of the hero. She ended up at Xavier's to heal and redeem herself, becoming a mainstay of the team.
Her stolen powers became so associated with her that they had to shoe horn a similar incident into Age of Apocalypse to keep the character recognizable, in this case stealing the magnetic ability of Polaris...which she used to be super strong, invulnerable, and fly.
Since then she's had some power shake ups and newer adaptations of used her base abilities (probably both for budget and narrative convenience, such as Anna Paquin's depiction in the X-Men movies)
And sure these takes have been truer to the original character.
But characters evolve and change roles...even Superman...and for a long time, Rogue was the flying powerhouse of the X-Men.
