Original Text: Psst...psst...#XForce! Staying in the X-Universe, let's talk about my favorite Brazilian Superhero: Sunspot!
Now, you could be forgiven for thinking that he was a Human Torch-esque character. Like I said, characters develop and change. When he first showed up in #NewMutants, Sunspot's only power was absorbing solar energy, using it for super strength, like a certain Kryptonian we know
It was in X-Force when he had flight and heat blasts added to his repertoire. Sadly, those are the parts that they put into Days of Future Past (though I was still happy to get him).
But let's talk about the character: Sunspot is a fucking billionaire Playboy philanthropist! He's also a dashing swashbuckler who better fit in Asgard than Earth!
One of my favorite stories was when he just...bought...A.I.M. Like, the terrorist group. He just won by being rich.
Another time is when he showed off the potential to go Super Saiyan in Age of Apocalypse (Gambit & the Xternals was a good series) and featured a crazy alternate version of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. What happens when a solar powered hero fights a guy named "Starbolt?"
As far as design goes, his costume never matters. His look is just so distinct. Great design and cool powers (oh, yeah, he's super strong but not invulnerable which gives his fights some real stakes).
But yeah, I hope everyone has a great #NewYear and that we can all live a life as full of "win" as Roberto da Costa.
