Superman Analogue: Union

Original Text: Alright. It's been a long day, so I'm going to cheat a little and talk about a character that I know very little about: #Union from #Wildstorm
(As an aside, my goal has been to only go off of memory for these threads, so that's why I'm not filling in the details that much)
So Union is fairly typically 90s. He's very Superman-esque in terms of powers and origin, with the primary twist being that his powers are tied to his energy staff. So kind of like Thor or Green Lantern, which I guess gives him a viable weakness to capitalize on when writing
He's an alien, though I think a fully grown alien. There were a lot of "Alien Soldier traveled to Earth to carry on their war" stories in the 90s and in Wildstorm in particular (obviously, given the "Wild" part is a reference to #WildCATs). So I guess he's a little #Hawkman, too
I'll admit, I don't think I ever read any of Union's book. Mostly I knew him from appearances in WildC.A.T.s and #Stormwatch (which he was briefly a member of) and from the collectible cards that we were obsessed with in the 90s.
I don't think any of the elements of the character really comes together, but I'm sure that's my lack of familiarity talking. I do remember being aware of the character and excited when he'd show up to clash with another heavy.
Frankly, if the line wasn't so packed with Superman analogues, I probably would be much more fascinated by him.
As it stands, he has a very similar beat to characters that meant a lot more to me and who had a more lasting impact, so I'm really just mentioning him because he comes to mind when I think of Superman analogues and that has to count for something!
If there are any #Union fans out there, I'd love to hear an impassioned plea for the character. I'm generally very pro-Superman types (shockingly) and would love to hear more about the character, specifically why he meant something to you.
