Switch or Ditch? Gunbarich for Nintendo Switch Review | 8-Bit Eric | 8-Bit Eric
This is a review of Gunbarich for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. Psikyo’s Gunbarich is now available to purchase from the Switch eShop, just like the case with Strikers 1945, Gunbarich is another arcade recently brought to Switch that was initially developed by Psikyo and published by Zerodiv Inc. Gunbarich is an arcade title from 2001, and a breakout/arkanoid style game, you try pass a class to be the best Magician Ever, you control a contraption at the bottom of the screen, that has flippers in order to bounce a ball around the screen and destroy the blocks to move on to the next stage. Along the way you will encounter different stage obstacles, hazards, and also obtain power ups. Gunbarich has a pretty interesting hybrid feel to it, sometimes it feels almost like a shooter. It is a very interested combination of elements of puzzle and shooting that actually make the game quite enjoyable to play. The ability to tap a button to send the ball flying off in different directions proves very useful, the game can also get pretty intense and fast at times, the stages after level one actually get shuffled around, and power ups, blocks, can be different each replay. Every level has a time limit, you basically have about one minute to complete the levels, if you run out of time you lose a life and start where you left off. There is unlimited continues in this game. Every three stages, you encounter a boss that you need to defeat within a certain amount of time. The controls are extremely simple – the left control stick, or D-Pad if you prefer, is used to move your paddle left and right, with the (A) button being used to swing open your flippers. There are two characters for you to play as, Marion or Grutan. Marion plays a bit faster and Grutan plays a little stronger. There are enemies in the game that can perform a special attack on your paddle that cause effects like stunning you temporarily, but the power ups you can receive also work in your favor like slowing down the speed, multi ball, You can even play the game in it original Vertical Arcade screen Position.
