Sword of Sodan Rolling Demo Apple IIGS
I was always curious about this game when I found out about it last decade. Sword of Sodan was a game I had for my Amiga 1000 (which I worked in a chip shop all summer to buy!!) The IIGS version is more technically impressive than the Amiga version relatively speaking (Amiga one does not code directly to the custom chips like Shadow of the Beast, it still uses built in low level Kickstart routines written in C code to access hardware). The scrolling is a little choppy, the samples not quite as clear and uses about half the colours but other than that this pretty damned good. You would need an STE to do better really, a regular Atari ST is probably not going to do this well due to using 4 separate bitplanes and no way with samples and full screen scroll left/right.
Shame it never got released, even putting aside the slight loss of speed the actual game would run vs speed of demo it would have sold well. Perhaps the market for IIGS was too small for them but apparently it was finished according to reviewers....or so they say!!
