SKY SHARK TAITO (US ONLY RELEASE OF FLYING SHARK) on a PAL COMMODORE 64 C64 ALL 5 LEVELS GAMEPLAY
I was trying out Flying Shark for various machines tonight and then remembered there was a US specific version with the same name as the US arcade (Sky Shark) which is different to what I saw as a kid in the shops here in the EU. The Flying Shark release was converted by Graftgold to the UK big three ZX/CPC/C64 8bits, unfortunately, either due to hardware lack of sophistication (ie ZX rubbish 2 colour graphics) or terrible coding (CPC terrible 4 colour mode clusterfuk decision) it really didn't hit the mark at all. The C64 version was average at best too even with sprites and hardware scrolling.
In the USA they got a very nice conversion of this game. Now I had already uploaded a video a very long time ago for this but it has been compressed to buggery (odd because I don't remember it looking so bad, has Youtube started recrompressing 240p videos?????) so I decided to re-do it and upscale it to full 1080p because the game is just a really nice conversion all things considered.
I also decided to run it in PAL mode to see if it would work on my real C64 and short of the odd glitch it actually runs OK to be fair. I guess Taito USA saw the UK release for the C64 and decided to pass on it and either recoded it or started a new one from scratch (unlikely as Tim Folin is the musician) The one thing that is a little disappointing is they have done no texture for the sea/water so it's just like a blue background of solid colour....a simple 1 char texture surely would have been a good idea. Ho hum plays nice anyway. Cheats used to show all levels
