The 'protect battery' feature on the Galaxy Tab S5e limits the full charge to 85%, which is good for the battery because Li-Ion/Li-Po batteries come under stress when they are charged to 100%, especially if you leave them fully charged for a prolonged period of time, this feature effectively prevents the battery from charging to 100%, so after turning this on you can leave the tablet charging overnight without any worries.
This feature is quite beneficial while binge-watching movies or watching Youtube because you can leave your tablet plugged in and not worry about the battery getting damaged and this also thus limiting the total charge and discharge cycles of the battery.
