Tak and the Guardians of Gross PCSX2 gameplay
0Tak and the Guardians of Gross is disapointing. When you list what the game has, it doesn’s sound bad. I mean it has variety, it has good production value, but the biggest problem with it is that it’s bland. It screams generic jungle adventure. The characters are flat, and lack personality, the music is forgettable, and the gameplay is the same. I mean sure, it focuses on platforming and mini games. Sounds varied and fun. But even if it looks okay, the gameplay is dull. At least in my opinion and some other reviewers I’ve seen. The controls are unimpressive. I mean controlling Tak isn’t bad. You can’t point your finger and say, Yup, it’s crap. But compared to previous titles Tak feels heavier, and more sluggish. And when you hit, you feel like hits don’t have as much power. Also, in spite the controller being capable, you can’t control the camera, which will lead to many frustrating deaths.
The level designs have a tendency to be either bad, or uninspired. And mini games are either boring or frustrating.
Overall, while the game has a ton of variety on paper. I mean it has combat, platforming, mini games and boss battles, that at first look seem nice, I, and other reviewers, found that the game is rather generic and dull. It definitely doesn’t hold up to the previous titles. This doesn’t mean that It’s a bad game by no means, it’s just that it’s an okay, but forgettable experience.
And it’s pretty hard to argue why. Because you can give plenty of arguments why the game is great, you have a laundry list of stuff that is great about the game, yet, most reviewers who played the game were left expecting more. So the best verdict for the game would be, that it’s an okay game if you treat it as a standalone game, but a step-down compared to the previous titles. The game is good, but people expected more.
