Take it Off! - [Original Song]
I wrote this in 2014, at an addiction recovery home in Vancouver. I was just a few blocks away from the the East end, near the infamous East Hastings street. The area is basically a Mecca for drugs, and nearly everyone there has either addiction issues, and/or mental health issues, or is selling drugs, or prostituting. Or any combination of those 4 things haha. Sometimes I'd get propositioned down there, and I vaguely remember this song being about one of those women. We interacted for a couple moments, in passing, before I declined and moved on. This song was inspired by the vague impression she gave off.
Poor girl, she knows she got it all wrong,
And she knew all along it would take much more,
Than a pretty smile,
She'll have to give it up,
Every once in a while,
To get the medicine,
That she thinks she needs,
So take it off!
For everyone to see
Oh no, she's lost herself along the way,
And she feels what she's doing's oh so very wrong,
Just doesn't feel right,
And she'll be crying inside,
By the end of the night,
And she'll get her fix,
And drift away,
And then she'll put 'em back on,
Her clothes from yesterday
Take it off, take it off, baby
Take it off, take it off, baby,
But baby, don't take it off for me
Take her hand, she'll lead you off into a room,
In the corner of a motel on the east side of town,
Where the junkies hang around,
And she'll do some fucked up stuff,
If you pay her enough,
And then she'll get her down,
And grab her gear,
It won't get her there,
But get her oh so near
Crazy, I know, the things we do for cash,
But you can put it in the past and start again,
Yeah it's so simple to say,
But so difficult,
To actually walk away,
From a hard life,
Cos' it feels easy,
So take it off,
For everyone to see
Take it off, take it off, baby,
Take it off, take it off, baby,
But baby, don't take it off for me
